Job Duties:

Our operation has a peak labor demand that is tied to a natural cattle production cycle. Most of our extra labor is required during calving, breeding, and weaning seasons, when the cattle must be closely watched, handed, and processed. These tasks only occur during specific times of the year and require additional workers on a temporary, seasonal basis. Maintaining and repairing fencing that may need it when moving cow/calves back out to pastures. No additional help will be needed once cattle is moved out to pasture. Calving starts in September and ends in April. No help is needed during the months of May to August. Job duties will include: clean stalls, pens, and equipment, using disinfectant solutions, brushes, shovels, water hoses, or pumps; drive trucks, tractors, and other equipment to distribute feed to animals; examine animals to detect illness, injury, or disease, and to check physical characteristics, such as rate of weight gain; feed and water livestock and monitor food and water supplies; groom, clip, trim, or castrate animals; dock ears and tails, or shear coats to collect hair; herd livestock to pastures for grazing or to scales, trucks, or other enclosures; inspect, maintain, and repair equipment, machinery, buildings, pens, yards, and fences; maintain growth, feeding, production, and cost records; mark livestock to identify ownership and grade, using brands, tags, paint, or tattoos; mix feed, additives, and medicines in prescribed portions; move equipment, poultry, or livestock from one location to another, manually or using trucks or carts; patrol grazing lands on horseback or using all-terrain vehicles; perform duties related to livestock reproduction, such as breeding animals within appropriate timeframes, performing artificial inseminations, and helping with animal births; provide medical treatment, such as administering medications and vaccinations, or arrange for veterinarians to provide more extensive treatment; segregate animals according to weight, age, color, and physical condition; shift animals between grazing areas to ensure that they have sufficient access to food; care for animals, clean equipment or facilities; examine animals to detect illness, injury or other problems; transport animals, crops, or equipment; treat animal injuries or illnesses. The employer, at its sole discretion, may grant pay increases based on factors such as performance, longevity, and/or experience. Employer may also, at its sole discretion, offer performance-based incentive bonuses that are not guaranteed and are determined by the employer. Workers returning for a consecutive season will be paid at the previous season’s rate if that rate exceeds the current published rate.
