Job Description

Full Time:
Yes
Number of Workers Requested:
2
Job Duties:
We operate a cow/calf operation and require seasonal employees to assist with feeding, watering, monitoring, and caring for livestock during our active production season. Calving begins in September and continues through the fall and winter months, creating a substantial increase in labor needs. Seasonal employees are needed to assist with all aspects of livestock care, including feeding and watering cattle; monitoring feed and water supplies; mixing and distributing feed, supplements, additives, and medications using trucks, tractors, and other equipment; examining animals to detect illness, injury, disease, or abnormal weight gain; providing routine medical treatments; administering vaccinations and medications; assisting with veterinary care; grooming and handling livestock; castrating and performing other animal husbandry practices; spraying, dipping, or treating livestock with disinfectants or insecticides; maintaining fences and facilities; moving and sorting cattle; and assisting with general herd management activities. Seasonal labor is not needed during the months of June through August because the cattle are maintained on pasture during this period, where they graze naturally and require only limited oversight that can be performed by the owner and existing workforce. There is no calving, intensive feeding program, processing, vaccination schedule, or other labor-intensive livestock activities during these summer months, resulting in insufficient work to support additional seasonal employees. Labor demands increase significantly beginning in September with the start of calving season and continue throughout the fall, winter, and spring production cycle.
