Job Duties:

Prepare the soil for pre-harvest, harvest and post-harvest work of coffee, farinaceous and vegetables. Most of the days of work are carried out outdoors and standing, with constant movement from one farm to another. Workers must be able to stand, walk on sloping terrain (uphill and downhill), sit, bend, kneel, squat (from the waist), push, pull, extend arms, lift, and carry items weighing between 5 and 75 pounds. Driving and operating passenger vehicles and farm equipment may be required.  Workers will assist in the maintenance of the farm facilities, perform light construction work and carry out equipment maintenance. They must also clean the work areas and maintain the premises; digging, cutting, and transplanting seedlings, cuttings, trees, and shrubs; and maintain and repair agricultural buildings, fences and other structures. The worker may be requested, but not required, to work up to 12 hours per day and/or during federal holidays, as well as on Saturdays, depending on on-farm conditions, climate, and crop maturity. The manager or supervisor will notify at the end of the day if there is any change in the start time or in the anticipated hours of work for the next day. Regular attendance is expected from all workers during the scheduled hours of the working day and/or period. Unsatisfactory attendance — including arriving late, frequently requesting leave before the end of the day, failing to comply with housing or transportation regulations, etc. — can be grounds for disciplinary action. Providing services to other farmers outside the scope allowed by the H2A visa will result in immediate termination of the contract. Workers should call their manager or supervisor at least one day before the start of the day if they anticipate that they will not be able to arrive on time.
