Job Description

Full Time:
Yes
Number of Workers Requested:
1
Job Duties:
The job duties are quite different than regular working duties usually required on this farm when planting and other duties as in the past. Sherwood Planting Partnership needs a worker that is dedicated only to the grain bins and silo bags and helping with loading when the time comes to shipping out grain. This is a job we have not had to do in the past. Due to the price or lack of price the commodities that are being held in the grain bins and keeping them maintained without spoilage. If spoilage becomes a problem this could cost my farm thousands of dollars when it becomes time to deliver to the buyer. Storage and maintenance being priority for the sale of quality products. These 10 grain bins hold approximately 30,000 to 40,000 bushels each of corn and rice. Currently corn is at $4.00 a bushel but praying the price goes up when it becomes time to deliver. Rice is $5.00 per bushel. I also have silo bags which hold between 2000 to 3000 bushels of grain. These must be checked for damage and make sure nothing has caused leaks in these bags. They are positioned on the ground, and weather can cause the packaging to break down or even predators such as possums, coons and foxes. They can make small tears in the packaging if they keep clawing at the material the bags are made of. Also, during the time in between checking bins and silo bags there is equipment that requires to be properly cleaned and winterized before my regular crew left at end of contract. This equipment is valuable to my next year's crop and needs to be looked after and stored for the winter. There is never enough time between the end of harvest to make sure all equipment is stored properly. I also have many ditches that need to be cleaned out, and culverts installed for next year's irrigation. Winter is the perfect time due to the fact that doing this now will not destroy the crop planted in the field.
