Job Duties:
Collect tickets/fees; serve limited food and drinks, set up and operate games; make change; assist patrons; attend, erect, take down, maintain equipment. Heavy lifting required. Hours, schedule and days vary. Work outside in all weather conditions. Work context It is important to understand that all of these tasks are performed in a context. Providing amusement rides, food, games or novelty merchandise. All of these tasks occur within the amusement park industry and none of them occur in the construction business or some sort of generalized maintenance or equipment assembly field. As a direct result of providing entertainment to the public or as incidental support to prepare for that entertainment at agricultural fairs, festivals, or celebrations, as well as community civic and other charitable fundraiser events for nonprofit sponsors, such as Catholic churches, volunteer fire departments, Lions Clubs, VFW clubs, and others. The revenue generated from theses entertainment events helps to support community causes, provide educational scholarships for young people, support America’s agricultural industry, and purchase firefighting equipment. Task identification The following tasks are associated with performing this job. I. Erecting equipment. Erecting mobile amusement equipment consists of Securing the foundation so it is stable. Extending or unfolding sweeps. Securing individual vehicles or carriers with pins or keys. Placing an aluminum safety fence around the exterior Placing warning signs in assigned places Erecting games or food stands consists of placing tents and vinyl tops for operation. Raising the trailer awning. Placing removable countertops. Arranging stuffed animals for attractive display. II. Taking down equipment. Taking down equipment is the reverse of erecting it. It does not entail any additional tasks, and it is justified under the same provisions. III. Attending equipment. Attending amusement equipment consists of Verifying ride restrictions, such as height requirements. Receiving tickets. Helping to load and unload patrons. Instructing patrons in operation procedures. Observing the ride and patron conduct during operation. Operating the ride. Attending games consists of Handling payments and making change. Observing the game during operation. Awarding prizes. Attending food stands consists of Taking orders Handling payments and making change. Slicing and cooking limited food items. Heating and reheating food. Serving food and drinks. Cleaning utensils, work surfaces, dining areas. Removing trash. Specific Food Tasks: Corn dogs 1) Mix batter by opening a bag of mix and adding water. 2) Open package of hot dogs, impale with stick. 3) Dip each hot dog into batter. 4) Put the corn dog into the deep fat fryer. 5) Pull corn dog from deep fat fryer and put under heat lamp on rack to drip grease. 6) Take order, money from customer, take corn dog from rack, slide into a foil bag and serve to customer. Cotton Candy 1) Pour sugar and flossine into the cotton candy spinner, wait for the floss to form. 2) Carefully twirl the cotton candy paper cone in the tub to form the cotton candy item. 3) When it has reached the proper size, put it into a plastic bag and hang it up. 4) Take order, money from customer, hand cotton candy to the customer. Candy Apples 1) Take apple from box, inspect to make sure not bruised. 2) Spear with wooden stick. 3) Dip apple in syrup in crock pot, then put on tray to cool and set. 4) Take order, money from customer, hand apple to customer. Funnel cakes 1) Mix powdered cake mix and water. 2) Pour batter into deep fat fryer. 3) Monitor cakes and flip to cook. 3) Pull food from deep fat fryer and put under heat lamp on rack to drip grease. 4) Take order, money from customer, take food from rack, place on plate and serve to customer. Burgers 1) Remove frozen patty from package, place on grill. 2) Cook meat on grill. Place slice of cheese on top. 3) Place cooked product

Hours, schedule, and days vary widely. Typically Wed-Sun, 4pm 11pm. Often 35-45 hours per week, may go up to 55 hours per week. Work needs (i.e., hours, days, schedule, location, and work positions) vary. Work needs subject to industry practice and are not guaranteed per day, per week, per schedule, per location, or per worker, e.g., rainouts, brief periods without scheduled events, event dates and hours set by agreement with sponsor and subject to change (based upon adverse weather, hours of operation, day of the week, attendance, size of the event, school schedules, amount of equipment in operation, staffing, etc.), and unforeseen cancellations. In the event of approved, overlapping events, work needs may cause workers to be adjusted. Must complete and pass post-hire background & drug test paid by employer. The job requires the applicant to be qualified, authorized, ready, willing, able, and available to perform during the entire employment at the designated worksites under adverse weather; to enter into and comply with employment contract and any housing lease; to follow workplace and housing rules; and to meet job performance standards. Work outside in all weather. The job requires the applicant to obtain all necessary government authorizations to work, such as an H-2B worker visa for foreign workers, which will be issued by the United States Embassy in the home country, and after which the applicant will be regarded as recruited at that time and place. Must cooperate with and complete job application and interview, and any supplied information must be truthful and complete. Must comply with grooming requirements and dress code. Must be willing to work up to 7 days/week. Subject to discharge for cause.
