- Job Duties:
- Winter Concrete Laborers will perform job duties related to concrete/construction winterization/closing and winter care, such as ensuring worksite grounds are clear of snow and ice before beginning work due to winter temperatures. Workers remove ice and apply salt when weather conditions are freezing; aside from winterization duties, workers will tend water pumps, compressors, or generator power for tools, machinery, or equipment. Workers will lubricate, clean, or repair machinery, equipment, or tools. Workers will signal equipment operators to facilitate the alignment, movement, or adjustment of machinery, equipment, or materials. Workers will clean or prepare construction sites to eliminate possible hazards. Workers will dig ditches or trenches using tools such as shovels and picks less than or equal to two feet deep and two feet wide to drain water from areas that equipment cannot reach due to encumbrances; encumbrances may be plumbing, electrical conduit, or piling. Workers will backfill excavations or compact and level earth to grade specifications using hand tools such as shovels, and picks. The workers will not use any equipment outside of the tools mentioned above. All excavation work will be done according to OSHA guidelines, and no workers will be in unsafe trenches. Workers will load, unload, or identify building materials, machinery, or tools, distributing them to appropriate locations according to plans and specifications. Workers will position, join, align, manufacture, or job-built concrete forms on grade, at prescribed elevation, vertically and horizontally, using saws, hammers, pry bars, nails, bolts, or manufactured assembly equipment. Workers will control construction equipment and job site vehicular traffic near, in, or around work zones. Workers will place compact, screed, freshly poured concrete using floats, trowels, screeds, or powered concrete finishing tools. Workers will erect and dismantle concrete framework, scaffolding/ shoring, and other temporary structures, as well as salvage and organize reusable materials. Workers will assist craft workers, such as carpenters, equipment operators, and concrete finishers. Workers will install embedment, anchor bolts, weld plates, dowels, and metals. Workers will chip, scrape, and grind concrete surfaces as required to meet concrete surface finish requirements. Workers will cut out damaged, unacceptable areas, drill holes for reinforcing, and position reinforcing as necessary to repair and restore concrete surfaces to meet project specifications.”
