- Job Duties:
- • Installing irrigation systems:
• Follow blueprint mapping/guidance.
• Trench/excavate and lay pipe using hand shovels, pipe pullers, and mid-heavy equipment.
• Run control wiring, install sprinklers, backfill trenches, set up controllers, and test the system.
• Utilize standard commercial irrigation products in a proprietary configuration with computers, controllers, peripherals, and wiring.
• All controllers and equipment will utilize existing electrical outlets.
• Operate the following machinery as needed during installation:
o Electrofusion, Butt Fusion, Sidewall Fusion, and Socket Fusion machines.
o Power hand tools, power compaction tools.
o Skid steers, tracked loaders, compact wheel loaders, ride-on compactors.
o Mini and compact excavators, mid-size excavators.
o UTVs, horizontal directional drills, hydro excavators, HDD mud mixing units.
o Walk-beside and ride-on trenchers, walk-beside and ride-on plows.
o Survey equipment, sod cutters, power sweepers.
• Operating and maintaining equipment:
• Perform basic preventative maintenance on all listed machinery to ensure optimal performance.
• Operate machinery safely and efficiently, ensuring minimal impact on the surrounding landscape or turf.
• Troubleshooting and repair of irrigation systems:
• Identify and repair issues with irrigation pipe, sprinklers, valves, wiring, and electrical components.
• Troubleshoot central irrigation control computers using mobile devices or tools to address issues (e.g., leaks, pressure problems, timing issues, or system changes).
• Conduct system tests to ensure sprinklers are functioning as intended, recording all details for future reference.
• General and seasonal system maintenance:
• Ensure that sprinklers, valves, piping, wiring, and the central control computer are operating as designed throughout the season.
• Perform system start-ups (including slow-fill pipes), system evaluations, and winterization.
• Equipment installation and adjustments:
• Install irrigation timers, piping, and valves.
• Read diagrams and blueprints to accurately locate irrigation valves, sprinklers, and wiring.
• Make critical assessments of water efficiency, adjusting to prevent over or under-watering.
• Record all modifications and adjustments in project logs to document system performance and maintenance.
• Purchasing of repair parts and inventory management:
• Responsible for purchasing repair parts, including sprinkler heads, pipes, valves, fittings, wires, cables, and more.
• Track inventory and manage purchase orders through internal processes (EVI PO).
• Order materials from authorized suppliers and dealers based on project specifications.
• Field repairs and documentation:
• Locate, excavate (hand digging or using equipment), and repair or replace malfunctioning equipment such as irrigation pipes and sprinklers.
• Document all troubleshooting and repairs for future reference, ensuring proper system functionality.
• System start-ups, evaluation, and testing:
• Perform thorough irrigation system tests for sprinklers and valves, recording all details.
• Activate zones with the controller, ensuring all sprinklers are performing as specified and watering the intended areas.
• Problem-solving and critical thinking:
• Proactively diagnose and address any issues with the irrigation system, solving problems with minimal disruption to the turf or landscape.
• Complete accurate daily paperwork, recordkeeping, and documentation as required by each project.
• General skills required:
• Strong understanding of field hydraulics, HDPE equipment, GPS systems, and pump station operations.
• Strong computer skills for controlling central irrigation systems.
• Valid driver's license with a clean driver’s abstract.
• Ability to work independently and perform physically demanding tasks.
