Job Duties:
As a Lawn Irrigation Worker, the employee will install, test, and maintain irrigation systems to ensure proper water distribution for lawns and landscapes. Installation begins with marking areas for pipe placement based on a basic irrigation layout or plan. Trenches are dug to the appropriate depth using shovels or small trenching equipment, and pipes are cut to size using simple pipe cutters. These pipes are then connected with basic fittings such as couplings and clamps, and sprinkler heads and control valves are attached at designated points to complete the system. Testing involves running water through the pipes to identify leaks and confirm even water distribution to sprinkler heads or emitters. This process includes visually inspecting the system for any issues and manually adjusting valves to ensure proper operation, using basic tools such as wrenches and hoses to flush out debris. Maintenance tasks include repairing leaks by replacing small pipe sections or tightening connections, clearing sediment from pipes, cleaning sprinkler heads, and aligning them for consistent water distribution. In colder climates, the worker may winterize the system by blowing out water with compressed air to prevent freezing, following standard procedures. The work is hands-on, physically active, and involves using basic equipment to install and maintain functional irrigation systems.
