Job Description

Full Time:
Yes
Number of Workers Requested:
2
Job Duties:
Combined original & RFI duties: The work environment/setting is a specialized metalwork and welding shop dedicated to manufacturing high-quality airboat parts. We make stainless steel exhaust headers for engines, aluminum rudders for steering, and steel brackets for starter/alternator assemblies along with motor mounts. The employee’s role is one of helper or assistant only. This worker will assist skilled welders and metal fabricators in daily operations. Load and unload items from machines, conveyors, and conveyances. Help set up workstations, tools, and materials. Assist with inventory checks and restocking materials as needed. Hold, align, and secure metal components during welding and fabrication. Support metal cutting, grinding, and polishing tasks. Inspect parts for defects and inconsistencies. Place products in equipment or on work surfaces for further processing, inspecting, or wrapping. Examine products to verify conformance to quality standards. The helpers will perform a cursory visual inspection of the packages to detect obvious damage to the items received, such as breakage, scratches, dents, damage to the packaging materials and seals. Helpers will perform a basic visual check of items that the company ships prior to packaging the item to identify damage or defects such as scratches, dents, paint chips, obvious breakage or other visually discernable damage. Start machines or equipment to begin production processes and observe equipment operations to detect any malfunctions to be reported. Remove products, machine attachments, or waste material from machines. Lift raw materials, finished products, and packed items, manually or using hoists. Pack and store materials and products. Transfer products, raw materials, tools, or equipment between storage and work areas of plants and warehouses, by hand or using hand trucks or powered lift trucks. Count finished products to determine if product orders are complete. Clean equipment and work areas by vacuuming up or brushing shavings off of a drill press, table, workbench or lathe onto the floor then sweeping into a dustpan. Sweeping the floor and then depositing into a trash can. Cleaning small shop equipment and lubricating. Cleaning the small shop equipment evolves brushing or wiping debris or residue from the surface of the equipment and the area of the workbench where the equipment was used. Measure, separate and identify amounts of products, lengths of extruded articles, or weights of filled containers to ensure conformance to specifications. Turn valves to regulate flow of liquids or air, to reverse machines, to start pumps, or to regulate equipment. Mix ingredients according to specified procedures or formulas. Helpers stir pre-measured 1:1 of a two-part solution that yields a binding polyurethane foam that is used in the manufacturing process by other workers, not the helpers. The mixture will be used to pour inside of the rudders used for steering of boats. This task is among the least often performed by helpers. Tie products in bundles for further processing or shipment, following prescribed procedures. Review and record information, such as the number of products tested, meter readings, gauges, charts or dates and times of product production. Unclamp and hoist full reels from braiding, winding, or other fabricating machines, using power hoists. Signal coworkers to move products during the production process. Perform minor repairs to machines, such as replacing damaged or worn parts. Break up defective products for reprocessing. Attach slings, ropes, or cables to objects such as pipes, hoses, or bundles. Position spouts or chutes of storage bins so that containers can be filled.
