- Job Duties:
- As team assemblers, workers will work as part of a team responsible for assembling wood trusses for commercial and residential buildings. Workers will use a saw to cut out the truss, assemble the wood truss on the table, use hammers to apply steel gusset plates at all joints, and use a large press to fasten steel gussets according to work order and blueprint specifications. As the season comes to an end and the temperatures begin to decrease, Workers will prepare to load or unloadbundles of wood and replenish racks for others assisting with the task. The loading and unloading duties will be performed manually; however, if necessary, due to the volume of materials, workers will also use a forklift to transport raw lumber delivered from a railcar. This task may also involve disposing of scrap lumber into a haul-away tub. Workers will use a forklift to move and rotate raw lumber materials, which will be stocked and sorted from oldest to newest, ensuring that the oldest materials are used first. Any defective or damaged maintenance for lawn mowers, weed trimmers, fans, rakes, and shovels, which includes cleaning and oiling. Then, the workers will store them away by hand to protect them from the winter, and with this, we will ensure the use of heaters to protect them from the cold. all workers will provide proper maintenance for the main woodworking equipment, which includes removing debris from under the truss assembly equipment, truss presses, and automated saws. These workstations have been dusted, vacuumed, and cleaned; they have also been greased, oiled, and painted. The heaters used during the colder months are swept and vacuumed free of debris, and this will be done by hand. Workers will complete annual training requirements, which include Training & Policies that follow OSHA 29, CFR1910: General Industry and/or Lyman Companies policies. In addition to the required trainings, workers will learn about Fire Safety and Evacuation, Tornado Safety, First Aid Stations, Confined Spaces, Compressed Air, Dust Control, Machine Guarding/Hot Works, Diversity, General Forklift Awareness, PPE, Bloodborne Pathogen, Lockout Tagout, Ladders, Tools required and used, Work area inspection sheets, Active Shooter Awareness, Harassment, and Standards of Business conduct. Finally, workers will check and maintain woodworking machinery to ensure it is in working order to prevent freezing or damage from the cold.
