Job Description

Full Time:
Yes
Number of Workers Requested:
3
Job Duties:
***RFI Response*** In order to extract, trim, and split granite blocks to be used for structural and dimensional granite construction projects the employees must first drill either 10 20 or 30 feet into the formation using a John Henry Deep Drill. Once a proper hole is drilled the employees must thread a wire with diamond grit beads through the hole and attach the wire as one continuous loop through the hole onto a Pelligrini Diamond Wire Quarry Saw. The employees then run this machine to cut through the formation. This process (drilling and cutting) is repeated until a large wall of granite is separated from the formation. Once separated the employees then split (using smaller hand-held diamond bit drills followed by feather-and-wedge steel bits which they hammer) or wire-saw the wall in order to cut the wall into blocks (typically 9’ x 5’ x 5’ or larger if requested by customer). After the blocks are created the employees must move the blocks using a front-end loader modified with forks sufficient to lift 60,000 pound blocks of granite to a separate area on the quarry so that they may be selected by customers for purchase. The depth and length of the wall and quantity and sizes of blocks cut from that wall are conditioned by the cracks, natural rifts and seams, and aesthetic color and pattern of the natural granite formation. ***Original Duties*** Labor to be performed includes to drill and saw into the granite formation and extract large blocks to be used for structural and dimensional granite construction projects; trimming blocks; splitting blocks.
