Job Duties:
DUTIES INCLUDE: WORKING DAILY IN THE PROCESSING PLANT. WORKERS WILL PREPARE AND PACKAGE ALL SHRIMPS AT THE PALMER FOODS FACILITY. THE SHRIMP IS RECEIVED FROZEN FROM THE FISHING VESSELS AND BROUGHT INTO THE FREEZER WHERE THEY ARE STORED. THERE ARE NO TOOLS REQUIRED WHILE RECEIVING THE SHRIMP FROM THE VESSELS. FIRST, WORKERS WILL THAW THE SHRIMP BY DUMPING IT INTO VATS THAT CAN HOLD UP TO 700 LBS OF SHRIMP. THE ONLY TOOL USED FOR THE THAWING PROCESS IS A PLASTIC SAFETY UTILITY KNIFE, WHICH IS USED TO CUT THE SHRIMP SACKS OPEN. THE VATS ARE THEN FILLED WITH WATER AND STORED IN THE REFRIGERATOR AT 32°F. AFTER 24 HOURS, THE SHRIMPS WILL BE READY FOR THE GRADING PROCESS. GRADING PROCESS IS WHERE THE SHRIMPS ARE SORTED BASED ON SIZE. DURING THE GRADING PROCESS, WORKERS WILL USE MANUAL PALLET JACKS TO MOVE THE VATS AROUND AND PLASTIC SHOVELS TO KEEP ICE ON THE SHRIMP AT ALL TIMES. ONCE THE SHRIMP IS GRADED, IT IS THEN TRANSFERRED DIRECTLY TO THE IQF (INDIVIDUAL QUICK FREEZE) TUNNEL. THE IQF TUNNEL FREEZES THE SHRIMP BEFORE THEY ARE PACKAGED. ONCE THE SHRIMP MAKES IT THROUGH THE IQF LINE, IT IS THEN PACKAGED IN BOXES AND STORED IN THE FREEZER UNTIL IT IS SOLD TO A BUYER. THERE ARE NO TOOLS REQUIRED DURING THE IQF PROCESS. THIS PROCESS ONLY REQUIRES LIGHT MANUAL LABOR AND ALL WORKERS MUST WEAR PROPER PPE PROVIDED BY THE COMPANY. LIGHT MANUAL LABOR INCLUDES PICKING OUT ANY SHRIMP WITH DEFICIENCIES, MONITORING SHRIMP ENTERING THE MACHINE, PUTTING SHRIMP INTO BOXES, PLACING STICKERS ON THE BOXES AND PLACING THE BOXES ON A PALLET TO BE STORED IN THE FREEZER. WORKERS WILL ALSO KEEP THE FACILITY CLEAN.
