Job Duties:
Carnival Attendant (39-3091.00) Collect tickets; assist patrons; erect, take down, operate & maintain equipment. Conduct games; make change. Heavy lifting & physically mobile. Work Context – It is important to understand that all of these tasks are performed in a context. The employer is in the business of providing wholesome family entertainment to the general public, which is generally accomplished by providing amusement rides, food, games, or novelty merchandise. All of these tasks occur within the mobile amusement industry, and none of them occur in the construction business, or some sort of generalized maintenance or equipment assembly field. Note: There are no food preparation tasks associated with this job. Task identification The following tasks are associated with performing this job. I. Erecting equipment – Erecting mobile amusement equipment consists of Securing the foundation so it is stable. Extending or unfolding sweeps. Securing individual vehicles or carriers with pins or keys. Placing an aluminum safety fence around the exterior. Placing warning signs in assigned places. Erecting games stands consists of Placing tents and vinyl tops for operation. Raising the trailer awning. Placing removable countertops. Arranging stuffed animals for attractive display. II. Taking down equipment – Taking down equipment is the reverse of erecting it. It does not entail any additional tasks, and it is justified under the same provisions. III. Attending equipment – Attending mobile amusement equipment consists of Verifying ride restrictions, such as height requirements. Receiving tickets. Helping to load and unload patrons. Instructing patrons in operating procedures. Observing the ride and patron conduct during operation. Operating the ride. Attending games consists of Handling payments and making change. Observing the game during operation. Awarding prizes. IV. Maintaining equipment Maintaining mobile amusement equipment consists of Visually inspecting equipment for wear and tear Minor repairs, such as replacing light bulbs or oiling parts. Cleaning the equipment or the area as needed.

Work hours Hours, schedule, and days vary widely. Typically Sun-Sat, 12pm 10pm. Often 35-45 hours per week, may go up to 50 hours per week. Work needs (i.e., hours, days, schedule, location, and work positions) vary. Work needs subject to industry practice and are not guaranteed per day, per week, per schedule, per location, or per worker, e.g., rainouts, brief periods without scheduled events, event dates and hours set by agreement with sponsor and subject to change (based upon adverse weather, hours of operation, day of the week, attendance, size of the event, school schedules, amount of equipment in operation, staffing, etc.), and unforeseen cancellations. In the event of approved, overlapping events, work needs may cause workers to be adjusted. Job requirements Post-employment random drug testing and background checks may be required by employer at no cost to the worker. The job requires the applicant to be qualified, authorized, ready, willing, able, and available to perform during the entire employment at the designated worksites under adverse weather; enter into and comply with employment contract and any housing lease; follow workplace, grievance, and housing rules. The grievance procedure requires workers to report any threats to or failure to satisfy working terms and conditions; and meet job performance standards. Work outside in all weather. The job requires the applicant to obtain and show proof of all necessary government authorizations to work this job, such as an H-2B worker visa for foreign workers. Any H-2B worker visa will be issued by the United States consulate in the home country, and after which the applicant will be regarded as recruited at that time and place. Must cooperate with and complete job application and interview, and any supplied information must be truthful and complete. Must comply with grooming requirements and dress code. Must be willing to work up to 7 days/week. Subject to discharge for cause.
