Job Duties:
As a paving, surfacing, and tamping equipment operator, the worker will operate paving equipment used for applying concrete, asphalt, and other materials to roadbeds, parking lots, or airport runways and taxiways or for tamping gravel, dirt, or other materials. The equipment the worker may use includes concrete and asphalt paving machine operators, form tampers, tamping machine operators, and stone spreader operators. Fastens attachments to equipment with clevis or wedge pin hitches, connects hydraulic hoses, belts, mechanical linkage or power takeoff shaft to tractor to provide power to raise, lower or tilt attachment. Greases, oils, and performs minor repairs on equipment. Must complete a formal “winterization checklist” before seasonal shutdown or freezing weather. Participate in season closing activities such as cleaning the shops, storing equipment, fill equipment with antifreeze, clean equipment before putting it away for the season.

Six (6) months of related equipment operation experience required. While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to use hands and fingers to handle or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to stand; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and taste or smell. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 75 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds with assistance. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Must be able to handle temperature extremes including cold and heat.
