Job Duties:
Under direction of a licensed supervisor, use hand (machetes) or small power tools and equipment to maintain and restore environmentally protected wetlands and uplands in State and National Parks and Wildlife Management Areas from Central to South Florida; chemically treat (spray) invasive exotic and nuisance vegetation and trees using 4-gallon backpack sprayers and/or small handheld spray bottles with ready-mixed chemicals or herbicides (Round Up Pro, Round Up Custom, Garlon 3A, Garlon 4, Impel Red, Blue Marker Dye (Spray Indicator), Polaris, Ecomazapyr, or Induce), as instructed by Supervisors and Crew Leaders; clear brush and debris, and apply herbicides as directed by Supervisors and Crew Leaders, in accordance with all laws and label instructions. Must be able to walk long distances, sometimes in water, carrying up to 30-pound backpack sprayer.; Personal protective equipment (goggles, chemical resistant flock-lined latex gloves, face masks, long pants, long sleeved shirts, rubber boots, and water bottles) is required and provided. May occasionally encounter wildlife including bees, snakes, and alligators. The position will not be required to mix the herbicides and chemicals as these are ready-mixed, meaning mixed beforehand by Supervisors and Crew Leaders. Additionally, the Employer clarifies that the position does not require any specific training, certifications, or licensing to perform the herbicide and chemical application tasks.
