Job Duties:

The Hotel Engineer maintains property functionality, safety, and aesthetics through routine, preventative, and emergency tasks, including: Perform carpentry, painting, light plumbing, and light electrical work to maintain pristine guest rooms and public areas. Respond to work orders swiftly, ensuring issues (e.g., faulty TVs, leaking faucets, climate control issues) are resolved with minimal disruption to guests. Execute routine inspections and "room care" on a scheduled basis (weekly, monthly, or quarterly) to proactively prevent system failures. Monitor, troubleshoot, and perform minor repairs on major building equipment, including boilers, chillers, kitchen appliances, and laundry machines. Unclog drains, repair leaks, replace flushometers, swap out faulty outlets, switches, ballast/LED drivers, and reset circuit breakers safely. Conduct routine testing on life-safety systems (fire alarms, sprinklers, emergency lighting) and maintain compliance with local building and safety regulations. Test chemical levels, balance water chemistry, and maintain filtration equipment. They will use the following tools: wrenches, screwdrivers, pliers, hammers, mallets, pry bars, utility knives, tape measures, torpedo levels, cordless drills, impact drivers, rotary hammer drills, reciprocating saws, oscillating multi-tools, circular saws, power drain augers, hand-held pipe threaders, bench grinders, sanders, heat guns, digital multimeter, clamp meter, non-contact voltage tester, and infrared thermometer. They will also use property management and smart systems such as Computerized Maintenance Management System, Building Management/Automation Systems, and Electronic Lock Encoders. They will use safety equipment including Lockout/Tagout kits, safety glasses, ear protection, steel-toed boots, insulated gloves and respirators/dust masks. They will use materials including: Teflon tape, washers, O-rings, PVC primer/cement, replacement faucet cartridges, wire nuts, electrical tape, replacement light bulbs, wall switches, outlets, drywall compound, sandpaper, touch-up paint, wood filler, caulk, screws, drywall anchors, door hinges, and drawer glides, air filters of various sizes, and fan belts. Preventative maintenance includes: Guest Room Maintenance HVAC/PTAC: Clean filters, coils, and drains; check thermostats. Plumbing: Inspect for leaks, clear slow drains, and service fixtures. Electrical: Test outlets, replace bulbs/drivers, and verify TV connectivity. Doors/Locks: Service RFID batteries, hinges, and safety mechanisms. Furniture: Repair fixtures, glides, and window treatments. MEP Systems Boilers: Flush tanks and verify anti-scald temperatures (120°F–130°F). Chillers/Towers: Clean tubes and test water chemistry. Commercial Equipment: Clean exhausts, laundry traps, and refrigeration coils. Generators: Perform periodic test runs and check fuel/battery status. Exterior & Public Spaces Pool/Spa: Balance chemicals daily and backwash filters. Life Safety: Monthly tests for exits and extinguishers; coordinate annual fire inspections. Lighting: Conduct routine walks to replace bulbs in public areas. The Hotel Engineer independently selects repair methods and prioritizes tasks by guest impact, resolving urgent climate issues before general maintenance. They optimize resources by using existing, low-cost inventory. They do not supervise others. ***Original*** (1) Install, adjust, modify and repair building systems and assess the conditions of all effective operations; (2) assist with the implementation of preventive maintenance programs for all hotel equipment: (3) ensure that room maintenance requests are handled in a prompt and courteous manner; (4) test safety systems, eg. emergency lighting and record keeping; (5) follow up on all alarms immediately to determine the exact location and cause; (6) determine emergency status and repair projects; and (7) assist the team in adhering to Loss Prevention guidelines.
