Job Duties:

The maintenance, repair, and handyman duties are limited to routine upkeep and minor repairs necessary to keep the oyster boats, docks, and shipyard equipment in safe operating condition. Workers inspect the vessels for damaged fiberglass, cracked or worn surfaces, loose hardware, peeling paint, or corrosion. Repairs may include sanding damaged or weathered fiberglass surfaces, grinding and preparing areas for repair, applying epoxy resin and fiberglass patch material to restore damaged sections of the hull or deck, sanding repaired areas smooth, and applying marine paint or protective coatings to prevent deterioration. Workers may also tighten or replace loose bolts, screws, hinges, and other hardware, and lubricate moving parts. These duties are performed using common maintenance tools and materials, including grinders, sanding discs, sanders, paint brushes and rollers, epoxy resin, fiberglass repair materials.. The work consists of routine maintenance and minor repairs only and does not involve major vessel reconstruction, fabrication, or specialized marine mechanic work. ***1st RFI response*** The tasks associated with this include assessing the boat to ensure the paint, running gear, controls, etc. are in order. Tools used include grinders, sanding disks, paint, epoxy resin, and fiberglass. The boats must be maintained to ensure there is no fiberglass, paint, or mechanical issues. If issues are found, they are corrected. Tools used include grinders, sanding disks, paint, epoxy resin, and fiberglass. ***Original*** Attach apparatus devices to cable, boom & hoist. Load/unload equip & supplies. Attach nets & lines, haul in, sort, clean catch, culling oysters, transplant oysters, store, unload oysters. Wash deck, equipment, cooler, and cabin. Sort and clean oysters and return undesirable and illegal oysters to bay. Place PVC pipe and/or oyster markers in private oyster leases. Transplant oysters/shells/rocks. Secures and removes vessel's docking lines to and from dock and other vessels. Shipyard work such as cleaning the vessel, grinding, painting, and lubricate, adjust, make minor repairs to engine and equipment. Perform maintenance, repair work and handyman activities on the oyster boats, dock and shipyards. Duties aboard fishing vessel include standing lookout, steering, engine room watches. Load / unload oyster sacks from vessel to dock cooler/freight trucks. The deckhands must be knowledgeable and comply with all U.S. Coast Guard safety procedures and all Texas Parks and Wildlife laws.
