Job Duties:

RFI Response: The employee will perform snow and ice removal services at commercial, industrial, and residential properties during the winter season, as needed. Primary duties include operating salter trucks to apply rock salt, treated salt, calcium, and other approved de-icing materials over large parking lots, private roads, commercial complexes, industrial facilities, apartment communities, and other paved driveways surfaces. The employee will operate truck-mounted salt spreaders and related equipment, adjusting application rates and spread patterns based on weather conditions, pavement conditions, and site-specific requirements to promote safe driving and walking surfaces. Before beginning work, the employee will inspect the assigned truck and salting equipment to ensure it is operating properly. This includes checking fluid levels, tire condition, lights, hydraulic systems, spreader controls, conveyors, augers, spinner assemblies, and material hoppers. During operations, the employee will monitor equipment performance, replenish de-icing materials as needed, and report any mechanical issues to supervisors. When not actively engaged in snow and ice removal operations, the employee will perform minor equipment maintenance and tool care. These duties are limited to routine preventative maintenance and do not include major mechanical repairs. Routine maintenance includes cleaning trucks, spreaders, and tools to remove salt, ice, dirt, and debris; washing equipment to reduce corrosion; lubricating moving parts; checking and tightening bolts, chains, and fasteners; inspecting hoses, wiring, and hydraulic connections for visible wear; replacing worn cutting edges, pins, or similar consumable components when directed; refilling fluids such as windshield washer fluid and fuel; organizing and storing hand tools and equipment; and preparing trucks and spreaders for the next weather event. Old JDs: Job duties include: removing snow and ice from sidewalks, driveways, walkways, and other public or private areas during winter months, using a shovel or snow blower, stacking and piling snow in designated areas when buildup is excessive, spreading ice melt or salt on sidewalks and walkways to prevent ice formation, cleaning up salt and snowmelt debris at the end of the season. Small equipment such as skid steers, snow blowers, or walk-behind spreaders when needed. Duties may also occasionally include operating salter trucks for larger areas and performing minor equipment maintenance and tool care when not in active use. Work will be in all weather conditions, including extreme cold, rain, sleet, and snow.

Must be able to lift and carry heavy loads. Capable of standing, walking, and bending for extended periods. Able to operate small machinery safely. Work may be performed on any day of the week from Monday through Sunday, including holidays. Days off vary. Shifts hours may vary depending on weather and snowfall timing. Overtime possible.
