- Job Duties:
- Duties include planting, transplanting, weeding, destaking, stringing crop, cutting string laying and taking up plastic. Prepare fields for planting. Operate and ride on machinery to manually plants seeds or plants into the ground and cover with dirt. Walk behind the machine making sure all holes are filled and covered. workers will utilize hand tools such as shovels, shears, trowels, hoes, tampers, pruning hooks, buckets, and knives. Manually harvest onto conveyor system that is pulled by tractor. walk behind conveyor system in field and repeatedly stoop to pick up squash, cucumbers and tomatoes. As conveyor system moves through the field, workers must make sure all products of correct size and maturity (at least 90%) or as instructed by supervisor. Make boxes, clean, grade, load and unload harvested products, or place into bins for shipment by size, weight, color or condition. Complete field cleanup activities after harvest. Prune weeds, prune crop and maintain fields. Workers who apply for and obtain an FLC or FLC employee certificate of registration with driving authorized by USDOL Wage and Hour Division during the employment period may drive the bus or other transportation vehicles to transport workers from the housing unit to worksites, between worksites, or drive to town to allow workers to shop and may be offered additional work hours. Workers are responsible for farm field sanitation including picking up trash. Wash selected products. Measure and weigh products or estimate, visually or by feel. Products are graded and sorted according to specified factors and defective, inferior and/or foreign matter is discarded. Acceptable products are placed in specified locations. Stack boxes onto pallets, transport vehicle or trailers. Employees with adequate driving authorization may operate vehicle. Assist with Good Agricultural Practices policies. Work is very fast paced during busy season. Employer is a drug free workplace. Drug testing is conducted post-hire at the employers expense and is not part of the interview process. Negative results are required before starting work. Three months of farm work experience is required. Workers will be required to lift and carry 50lbs . Work is in extremely hot, cold, and/or wet conditions. Perform repetitive walking, stooping, bending and reaching for prolonged periods of time. Workers are expected to posses the skills to work in the production of crops listed in this job order. The introductory period for all crop activities is 2 days starting with the first day of employment to acclimate the worker to the physical demands of farm and to familiarize workers with the job specifications and to demonstrate proper harvest methods and other crop specific issues. Workers must adhere to all safety rules as instructed by the supervisor. Workers must take care to handle tools, equipment and produce in a manner to avoid injury or damage. The employer will comply with all federal, state and local safety requirements. Operational specifications can change during the season due to crop or market conditions. Workers will be expected to conform to the specific instructions given for each days work. Instructions and general supervision will be provided by the employer or a designated employee. Workers will have close supervision to insure adherence to instructions. Work will be closely monitored and reviewed for quality. Use of personal cell phone or other personal electronic device during working hours strictly prohibited except for work-related calls or emergencies and violation may result in immediate.
