Job Duties:

Workers will perform assigned duties as instructed by their supervisor. The worker will walk down the aisles between the plants in the corn fields, for the purpose of detasseling seed corn, remove rogue plants, weeds and volunteer corn plants from seed corn production fields. In order to perform this kind of work must be able to work outside for at least 6 hours a day in all kinds of weather and be in possession of the requisite strength and endurance, working quickly and skillfully with their hands Hand-Pollination - Including shoot bagging, setting up tassel bags with paperclips, taking down tassel bags to pollinate and staple around stalk. Workers will collect and dictate phenotypical data such as but not limited to plant height, ear height, and leaf angles to a note taker. Plot Maintenance – Hand pulling weeds, hoeing weeds, backpack spray weeds with Roundup under supervision of licensed applicator, inoculating corn stalks with pipe jabbers and/or with inoculating team. Drilling holes in the stalk with a cordless drill, inoculate stalks with inoculation gun, then smear petroleum jelly over the hole. Shoot bagging, cutting back, putting tassel bags up, and tassel bags down, Irrigation Maintenance - Assemble and disassemble irrigation pipes, hoses, sprinklers, and guns, as well as drive fence posts into the ground, and tie sprinklers to them for stability. Detasseling corn – The worker will walk down the aisles between the plants in the corn fields, for the purpose of detasseling seed corn, remove rogue plants, weeds and volunteer corn plants from seed corn production fields. Quality Checker - The worker may be asked to check the quality by moving down a row checking quality to ensure that all seed tassels were sufficiently removed. They will report issues to work supervisor. General Field Work - Workers will also be required to paperclip tops of bags, affixing row tags with staplers, sweeping , setting up and taking down tents, affix tarps, drive post into the ground, tie down with ratchet strap, and set up and take down tables. Workers will also sample leaves, check genes, stake, pick up trash and stock harvest supplies.Workers must also repaint parking bumpers, safety posts, and floor safety lines, Dump and discard seed packets, bags, and envelopes into a discard Gaylord, pick up paper waste in the field, as well as general clean-up activities. Other Requirements: Workers seeking employment under this job order must be available for entire period requested by the employer. The employer retains the right to discharge any obviously unqualified worker, malingerer, or recalcitrant worker who is physically able to complete the work, but does not demonstrate a willingness to perform the work necessary for the employer to grow a premium quality product, or for any other lawful reason.
