- Job Duties:
- Workers will perform assigned duties as instructed by their supervisor. Duties may vary from time to time. Clear ground of rocks, sticks, & roots by hand. Clear brush & trees with chain saw or related hand tools. May use following equipment: Tractor, planter, hipper, row conditioners, disks, field cultivators, ditchers, dirt pans, mowers, spreaders, sprayers, excavators. Workers may also clean and organize the shop, irrigate crops, and fix fences, cut, rake, and mow. Workers may also be mixing spray chemicals and loading them into the sprayer and spraying the High Cycle Sprayer.
Detasseling seed corn, remove rogue plants, weeds and volunteer corn plants from seed corn production fields. Detassel Corn – Must be able to walk miles per day while pulling all tassels from plants within the designated female rows, including tassels on tiller/sucker plants. Tassels will be pulled as they emerge and before shedding pollen. Rogueing – Workers will remove all rogues or off-type plants from within and between seed cornrows. Clean-up Detasseling -Workers will be required to cleanup all tassels or part tassels that remain from plants after detasseling machines have covered the designated female rows. Workers may also be required to husk, sort during harvest. Workers will perform seed corn receiving, silage, sorting, and dryer load out duties as it pertains to harvest seed corn crop and kernels. Drain water from fields with hand tools & shovels when needed. Repair, maintain, & clean all hand tools & mechanical equipment prior to and after use. Workers may also plant, cultivate, and harvest soybeans and corn.
Cattle - Workers will perform any of the following tasks to attend to livestock, such as on-farm. Maintain heated watering system; operate feed wagons. Mix feed and additives, fills feed troughs with feed and water for livestock; Examine animals to detect diseases and injuries; Vaccinate animals by placing vaccine in drinking water or feed using syringes and hypodermic needles; Apply medications to cuts and bruises; spray livestock with insecticide. Confine livestock installs washes, clips them to prepare them for calving, and assists veterinarian in the delivery of offspring. Binds or clamps testes or surgically removes testes to castrate livestock. Clip identifying notches or symbols on the animal, or brand animal, using branding iron to indicate ownership; clean livestock stalls and sheds using disinfectant solutions, brushes, and shovels. Maintain farm buildings and equipment for the livestock. General field & fence maintenance: Bail hay, Haul hay & feed cattle. Herd and assist management with veterinary or general maintenance tasks performed on cattle (to include jobs such as assisting with births, administration of shots, and application of ear tags). Assist with loading and unloading of cattle to be shipped or received at the farm.
Workers must be able to work with minimum supervision. Workers may be asked to drive farm vehicles. May Transport workers to fields and or grocery store. OFLC Administrator publishes new AEWR rates yearly and we reserve the right to adjust our job order to the new published rate regardless of rate increases or decreases. Raises and bonuses may be offered to any seasonal worker, at the employer’s discretions, based on individual factors including but not limited to, performance, experience, number of hours worked in the season, number of seasons worked with the company, adherence to work rules and ability to follow supervisor instructions.
