Job Duties:
Workers will perform assigned duties as instructed by the supervisor. Applicants must be 18 years or older. Minimum of 6 months experience required. Duties may vary from time to time. Work is performed on the farm, butchering/slaughtering of a live animal. Workers are responsible for live kills, including shooting/stunning, cutting, removing the animal’s head, hide, and legs. Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to cutting and skinning the animal and presenting it for further processing in a clean manner. Must be able to process and prepare a variety of meats from all hoofed animals with knowledge of the carcass and how to properly break it down. Must have knowledge and skills to sharpen butcher knives. Must maintain all equipment, including knives, saws, grinders, and work area. The employer will furnish, without cost, all tools, supplies, or equipment required in the performance of work. Crews will be responsible for vehicles, tools, and equipment assigned to them. Deductions will be taken for lost tools, misuse causing damage, and destruction of tools and equipment. Vehicles must be kept clean and deductions will be made for necessary cleaning, damage due to misuse, and reckless operations. Must be able to lift a minimum of 75 lbs. Knowledge of animal safe handling; including human slaughtering procedures. Knowledge of basic animal safety rules and how to handle oneself among live animals; experience preferred. Knowledge of farm life, including farm animals and machinery performed on the farm. Six (6) months of butchery, farm, or livestock work experience required. Work requires repetitive movements, and the majority of time is spent on ones feet. Workers should be able to do the work required with or without reasonable accommodations. Employer reserves the right to require random drug screening of employees at the employer’s expense. Applicants found to be under the influence of drugs and are unable to provide documentation from a medical professional, will be immediately terminated out of concern for workplace safety, and paid for all hours worked between the first date of employment and the date of termination, if any. In the case of a foreign worker who is terminated for cause resulting from findings of the drug screen, the employer will arrange least-cost transportation to the worker's place of recruitment, at the worker's expense. Proper work attire is required. No personal cell phone usage on the job. Cell phone use should be limited to contact with the supervisor and other employees as necessary to perform job duties. After worker has completed 50% of the work contract period, employer will reimburse worker for the cost of transportation to the place of recruitment. Upon arrival to the place of employment, workers who provide receipts for meals and non-alcoholic beverages in excess of $14.00 will be reimbursed during the first pay period, up to the maximum of $59.00 per 24-hour period of travel from the place of recruitment to the place of employment (if it is the prevailing practice). Due to subsequent employment with another employer who agrees to pay such costs, in which the employer will only pay for the transportation and subsistence to the next job. The amount of the transportation payment will be equal to the most economical and reasonably similar common carrier transportation charges for the distance involved. The employer will not be responsible for providing the cost of return transportation and subsistence from the place of employment to the place of recruitment if the worker voluntarily abandons the job or is terminated for just cause.
