- Experience requirements will be: 3 months of farm experience and 6 months of sheep experience. One reference required. Must be able to stand, walk in the field, or sit for extended periods of time Must be able to repeatedly bend over Must be able to run and move when herding and handling animals to prevent escape. Must be able to safely and securely with help, gain and maintain safe control of any size livestock. This could include roping from an ATV, or proper and safe use of chutes, squeezes and tables. Must be able to lift 80 pounds and repeatedly lift and carry 50-pound feed sacks, lifting to a height of 5 feet. Must be able to speak Spanish to communicate safely with other employees while doing team tasks to avoid miscommunication and maintain safe working conditions for self, coworkers and livestock Required to: perform tasks capably and efficiently without close supervision, work independently or in small groups of workers; to maintain equipment and machinery to a standard established by the employer, work outdoors in all types of weather and may experience occasional exposure to hazards such as poisonous snakes, biting insects and extreme temperature; work with and around farm machinery, and operate that machinery such as tractors with implements; have or be able to legally obtain a valid drivers license and possess a driving record that meets company’s insurance guidelines and policies. In order to perform this kind of work, workers must be able to work outside for at least 6 hours a day in all kinds of weather and be in possession of the requisite physical strength, mobility and endurance. The worker agrees to be available for work and perform the assigned work for the assigned employer whenever work is available through the full period of employment shown. Excessive absences and/or tardiness may result in termination. Daily individual work assignments, crew assignments, and location of work, will be made by and at the sole discretion of the employer and/or a designated co-worker that is in charge of a specific task as the needs of the farming operation dictate. Workers may be assigned a variety of duties in any given day and/or different tasks on different days. Workers will be expected to perform any of the listed duties as assigned by the employer. Workers may not report for work while under the influence of alcohol or drugs. The possession or use of illegal drugs or alcohol on company premises, is prohibited and will be cause for termination. Tobacco use strictly prohibited on company property except for specifically designated areas. No smoking, vaping or tobacco use of any kind permitted in the fields, company vehicles, on company premises. This is necessary to protect against transmission of toxins, fire risk, and contamination from tobacco by-products to other employees or the employer. Employer reserves the right to discharge any employee found using any type of tobacco product in unauthorized areas.
An applicant for this job must be available to work for the entire duration of the contract. An applicant referred to the employer after the labor certification has been granted, but before 50 percent of the work contract period for the entire itinerary has elapsed, must be available and willing to join the employer and remain with the employer for the duration of the contract. Employer retains the right to discharge an obviously unqualified worker, malingerer or recalcitrant worker who is physically able but does not demonstrate the willingness to perform the work necessary for the employer to produce and maintain a premium quality product, or for any other lawful reason. All workers will be subject to a five-day trial period, during which the employer will evaluate workers' performance of required tasks.
