Job Description

Full Time:
Yes
Number of Workers Requested:
2
Job Duties:
Crops/Commodities: Assorted Vegetables. Our farm is small diversified vegetable farm that sells vegetables directly to retail markets and to wholesale markets. This job is a job on our farm's 'wholesale harvest crew' in addition to being a tractor operator and irrigator. The majority of work hours will be spent operating tractors, irrigating, and maintaining equipment used for these tasks. These operators are also responsible for transporting workers for weekly trips to town for banking and grocery access when the employer is not available. As such an operator must be willing and eligible to apply for and receive a Washington State Drivers licence within 30 days of hire, unless they already possess a licence of higher authority, such as a CDL recognized in Washington State per The North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA). These operators will also spend some of their time supporting the main vegetable harvest crew by picking and bunching lettuce, kale, beets, cabbage, chard, and other vegetable crops as the season require. Our crop specializes in lettuce and kale and much of our big wholesale harvest blocks will be focused on those crops. The majority of time will be spent on tractors and irrigating, but at times these operators will help our vegetable harvest crew harvest smaller quantities of more crops (carrots, onions, herbs, cucumbers, etc.). At certain times in the season the operators will help the production with irrigation, weeding, and planting. Generally we do not ask people to stay with a specific harvest/task more than 4 hours. Even if someone is on a tractor all week we like to offer a little diversity in work so they never spend all day doing the exact same thing. Often times there will be two or three tasks in different areas per day. We are a small family farm and are looking for people who are honest, friendly, and easy to get along with. We also appreciate people who have a sense of how to work quickly and efficiently, and as part of a team. We value our employees as individuals, and do whatever we can treat them with respect and care. Employer may request, but not require, workers to work more than the stated daily hours and/or on a worker's Sabbath or federal holidays. Worker must report to work at designated time and place each day. Daily or weekly work schedule may vary due to weather, sunlight, temperature, crop conditions, and other factors. Employer will notify workers of any change to start time. Workers will have an unpaid lunch break. TERMINATION. Employer reserves the right to terminate a worker at the conclusion of the trial period if the worker's performance fails to satisfy the employer's reasonable expectations, or is otherwise unacceptable. Employer may terminate a worker for lawful job-related reasons, including but not limited to situations in which the worker: (1) Is repeatedly absent or tardy; (2) malingers or otherwise refuses, without cause, to perform the work as directed; (3) commits act(s) of misconduct or repeatedly violates the Work Rules; and/or (4) fails, after completing the trial period, to perform work in a competent and skillful manner, consistent with the employer's reasonable expectations. Non-U.S. workers may be displaced as a result of one or more U.S. workers becoming available for the job during the employer's recruitment period. Job abandonment will be deemed to occur after five consecutive workdays of unexcused absences. Workers may not report for work under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Possession or use of illegal drugs or alcohol on company premises is prohibited and will be cause for immediate termination.
