Job Duties:

Workers mowing/bush-hogging, cut, rake and roll hay, any other farm related task. Workers may operate tractors and farm equipment to cut, rake and bail hay and wrap for storage, taking soil samples, workers may operate farm equipment to spread fertilize on hay fields and spray for weeds. May operate truck/tractor and wagon to move hay for storage. Operate tractor and equipment to mow/bush-hogg pastures and fields. Will work with the management of livestock, herd health work associated with breeding and calving season. Inspect herd to identifying signs of illness or injury, administering medications and vaccinations as directed by employer, tag for identification, castrate and monitor for signs of distress, operate tractor to feed hay/grains and mineral during winter months as directed by employer, ensure cattle access to water, operate tractor remove manure from fed area as directed by employer, monitor heard cow and first time heifers during pregnancy and assist with calf birthing as needed, monitor cow/calf for signs of distress, mending established fences to ensure cattle do trespass on neighbors properties and/or roadways, assist with loading and transportation of livestock in truck and trailer. The employers operation has a seasonal need for workers during the breeding and calving season which typically occurs from during the fall and spring months. The employer has about 400 calving cows who will give birth during this period and is labor intensive and critical to success of the livestock production cycle. During calving season the employer is requesting workers to assist with monitoring of pregnant cows and first time calving heifers to ensure a safe birth, assist with difficult calving birth and provide immediate care to cow and calf as needed, in the event cow dies during the birthing or does not take to calf the calf will need immediate administration of colostrum to be bottle fed over the next few months until the calf can survive on grass and supplemental grain/hay, in the event the cow needs assistance giving birth she will need to be kept up in lot and monitored for period of time ensuring she is feed and watered,administered medications and vaccinations as directed by employer. Worker will help with administering vaccinations to prevent illness and disease, castrate bull calves as directed by employer, tag calves for identification of date of birth and mother. Continually monitor cattle to detect illness in cow/calves, ensure silage and hay is provided day for proper health and body condition of cow/calf as the pasture grazing is very limited during fall, winter and spring season. Especially this year due to drought. Cows need adequate nutrition during breeding season and pregnancy with nursing calves. Breeding season usually follows 45-60 days after calving. During this time workers will monitor bulls, ensure bulls are getting proper nutrition to preform, to ensure they are breeding cows in heat, monitor cows heat cycle, monitor bulls for injuries during act of breeding, ankle injuries and overall well being during breeding season and address as directed by employer. Keep records of breeding dates, calving dates, calf performance. Good management during breeding season contributes to overall herd profitability. After breeding/calving season is over bulls are separated from the cows/calves heard. It is during this time the employer will also be harvesting silage which is chopped and bagged in the fall. Once the silage is harvested workers will prepare fields and plant wheatlage in the fall to be harvested early spring. It is crucial to harvest wheatlage in proper boot stage for best quality of forage for cattle. After wheatlage is bagged fields will be prepared to plant corn for silage to be harvested in the fall. Breeding/calving and crop duties are time sensitive and must be performed a certain period of time each year to ensure farm productivity. Alternative work, cleaning barns, mowing, weeding eating.

Operating motor vehicles under the influence of drugs or alcohol is illegal and prohibited by law. Operating tools and equipment as applicable and noted in the job description while under the influence of drugs and or alcohol is dangerous and noted in operator manuals - Do Not Operate Under the influence of Drugs or Alcohol. Workmans' Comp Insurance as well as vehicle insurance companies require safety compliance. Poor judgment, improper driving, etc. can result in serious and fatal accidents. Employer has strict policy prohibiting drug use. Any drug testing will be post hire and at the employer's expense. Assisting with the employers farming operation includes lifting agricultural tools and equipment that weigh up to the requirement listed. Employer may request but cannot require workers to work on their Sabbath. The nature of farm work may require workers to work after dark and possibly weekends depending on the weather conditions. 1 week of on the job training provided by employer
