Job Duties:
Packing House Labor- Watercress Line: Watercress and Arugula bunches or loose products are transported to the packing house on trucks. The product is unloaded, packed, and stored in the cooler by the packing house employees. Prior to work all Packing House employees must wash and sanitize their hands for food safety reasons. Packinghouse Leader - Worker is responsible for assisting the Farm Manager and supporting the packinghouse workers by helping communicate daily work plans. Workers will be assigned to packinghouse during harvest season. Worker must be familiar with Employer food safety policies, and work rules for laborer’s position. Worker will assist in identifying and reporting violations of employment policies. Worker will help ensure that packinghouse workers clock in and out and track daily hours using HRIS. Worker will be required to report any packinghouse worker absences or separations from employment to Employer immediately. Worker will be required to communicate with the supervisors in packinghouse, quality control department and farm management. During the harvest season team members will vary from day to day and can change throughout day depending on Employer needs and crop conditions. Assisting Supervisor: Workers will assist inspecting the quality of product, verifying that the harvested product complies with the employer’s quality standards. Workers will support the farm supervisor with directing and monitoring the crew. Packing Bunches: The packers start their day separating waxed cartons and placing them in front of the packing stations. The person running the line Switch (on/off) makes sure that all packers have enough product in front of them. When the line stops, one packer should place more empty boxes on the line, other place more inserts and the other person swipes the floor. Switch Packer leads the group to move from station to station. Packer packs 24s in 8 rows of 3 bunches and pack 12s in 3 rows of 4 bunches according to procedures. Once full, the Packer rakes the stems clean of leaves. Carefully place the box on the conveyor. Helps setting up boxes on the conveyor. Sweeps floor as needed. Discharge bad bunches on the bad bunches tub. Picks up and dispose of any boxes packaging straps. Follows all supervisors instructions. Packing Sleeves: Packers sleeve bunches on by one then they pack these into carbon boxes. These are packed 12 bunches per box. Packer discard bunches with low quality. Keeps the area clean and free of debris. Follow all supervisors instructions. Packing House Night Labor: Responsible for cleaning up product after production. Sweeping debris from floors. Washing conveyor belts and machines. Packing House Night Lead: Responsible for monitoring employees punching in/out. Assigning duties to workers, such as daily station cleaning assignments. Ensures and reviews quality of work. Communicates with Plant Manager regarding schedule or quality of work with employees. Enforces safety and quality measures during the cleaning process. **The employer will provide a 14 day training period. At the end of the training period the worker must produce enough to earn the production standards identified in this application at the end of the subsequent payroll period.
