Job Duties:
This position will support daily agricultural operations on a row crop farm including mint, wheat, and seed crops such as beans, sweet corn and popcorn by performing hands-on fieldwork and equipment-related tasks. This role involves planting, cultivating, irrigating, and harvesting crops while following safety and quality standards This is a Skill level II position that requires at least three (3) months of farm labor and irrigation experience. Drip Irrigation: Workers will assist in installing and removing drip irrigation. They will inspect, monitor, and repair drip system daily. Other Irrigation Duties: Repairing and maintaining pivot drop hoses, laying out and picking up 3" hand lines, replacing nozzles and sprinklers on hand lines and pivot drop hoses, laying out and collecting siphon tubes. Remove weeds from all crops using a shovel, hoe or hands. Mint Harvest/Mint Still Operator: Mint harvest and distilling is a 24/7 operation and workers may be asked to work an overnight shift. Distilling is a required part of harvest and not further processing of the crop. Other duties may include: 1. Operate and tend equipment used in agricultural production and field preparation such as tractors, irrigation equipment and other commonly used equipment in agriculture. 2. Adjust, repair, and service farm machinery and notify supervisors when machinery malfunctions. 3. Observe and listen to machinery operation to detect equipment malfunctions. 4.Will operate tractors to work, plow ground and move implements in and out of fields. 5. Spray fertilizer or pesticide solutions to control insects, fungus and weed growth, and diseases using tractor or hand sprayers. Backpack Spraying of Herbicide – Mix backpack sprays as instructed then selective spraying of unwanted weeds typically using hand pump sprayers with wand and spray shield to prevent contact with crop. 6.. During harvest, workers will be driving harvest farm exempt, non-CDL trucks and vehicles and may have the opportunity to work nightshifts. 7.. Manipulate controls to set, activate, and adjust mechanisms on machinery. 8. Load hoppers, containers, or conveyors to feed machines with products, transfer augers or shovels. 9. Drive vehicles or trucks to haul crops, supplies, tools, or farm workers. 10. Load and unload crops or containers of materials, manually or using conveyors, forklifts, transfer augers. 11. Remove weeds and rogue crops with hands, shovel or hand tools. 12. Self-starter with ability to prioritize work. 13. A safety-first approach to all activities performed. 14. A team-oriented approach to problem solving and prevention.
