Job Duties:
Crops: Peaches, Grapes, Cherries, Apricots. Workers will prune, weed, and plant while working from the ground, a motorized platform, and/or a ladder. Workers will carry plants and place them onto trucks or trailers when planting trees or vines. Workers must exercise care at all times to prevent damage to plants, trees, vines, equipment, and property. Workers will hand harvest fruit; prune, thin, and hand-train trees or grapevines from the ground, a motorized platform, and/or using a ladder. Workers must be able to lift, carry, and handle an 8–12-foot orchard ladder weighing up to 60 pounds. For harvest, workers will attach a harness, bucket, or plastic lug and pick fruit according to grade, color, and size. Fruit will be removed by hand using techniques that prevent damage to buds, branches, shoots, or canes. Workers will carry filled buckets or bags and place fruit into lugs or bins. Workers must exercise care at all times to prevent bruising fruit or breaking branches, shoots, or canes. For pruning or thinning, workers will use hand shears, hand loppers, hand saws, and other appropriate tools and equipment. Workers may be required to selectively prune trees based on size, condition, or other characteristics, as instructed by their supervisor. Supervisors will train workers to identify and remove stubs, broken branches, downward-growing branches, rubbing branches, shaded interior branches, dead wood, shoots, and suckers. Workers will remove cut branches from orchards or vineyards for disposal, including burning or removal from the property. In some instances, workers may be required to use chainsaws or pole saws to remove large dead or diseased limbs. Workers will be expected to carry, maintain, and properly store saw equipment. Safety training and equipment maintenance training will be provided. For hand training, workers will tie, tape, or clip limbs to wires; position limbs; shoot thin; remove suckers; thin clusters; position shoots; hedge; or remove leaves under employer supervision. Hedging may require the use of hand loppers or gas-powered hedgers. Workers may be trained to use mechanized leaf-removal equipment for grapes. Workers will walk through vineyards to train grapevines to cordon wire and perform thinning, trimming, and watering as needed. Workers may place plant protection cartons around young vines and secure vines using bamboo stakes and wire. Workers will move trellis wire up or down as needed throughout the season. Vineyard management practices include, but are not limited to, shoot thinning, sucker thinning, leaf thinning, and related tasks. Workers may operate or tend agricultural equipment used in production and field preparation, including tractors, irrigation equipment, and other commonly used farm equipment. Farm cleanup tasks include, but are not limited to, collecting garbage in and around orchards, removing old string and wire from trellis systems and orchard blocks, and performing other general hand labor tasks. Workers will repair trellis systems by splicing wire, fixing wire notches, removing broken posts, and replacing posts using employer-provided tools and materials. Workers may assist in establishing new orchard or vineyard properties by clearing land, installing trellis systems, preparing ground, spreading composted materials, and performing other labor necessary for orchard or vineyard establishment. Workers may operate farm machinery and motorized vehicles and perform basic maintenance tasks. Workers may manually apply fertilizer or use tractor-pulled fertilizer spreaders. Workers may operate tractors, skid steers, forklifts, or other equipment to mow, weed, spray, prune, and move bin trailers. Workers will inspect equipment and vehicles and report any needed repairs or maintenance. This list is not exhaustive but reflects commonly used equipment.

Special Requirements:
This job requires a minimum 2 months of prior experience working in apricot, peach, or cherry orchards and/or wine grape vineyards, handling both manual and machine tasks associated with commodity production and harvest activities. Applicants must furnish verifiable job references or comparable third-party documentation from recent employers to establish acceptable prior experience. Employer reserves the right to conduct employer-paid post-accident drug testing. Any employee who declines to take or fails a drug test will be immediately terminated. Full Growing Season Commitment: The job offered requires that the worker be available for work every day that work is available for the full period of employment. The worker agrees to be available for work and perform the assigned work for the assigned employer whenever work is available through the full period of employment.
