Job Description

Full Time:
Yes
Number of Workers Requested:
10
Job Duties:
CalVan Driver: Worker is responsible for transporting workers between designated housing sites or pick-up points and assigned work sites. At the end of the workday, the driver returns workers to their original pick-up locations. This role requires a valid state-issued driver’s license and the ability to pass a Class B physical exam and register as an FLCE driver, with the employer covering these costs. CalVan Drivers will drive a minority of the work hours in this contract. (i.e. approximately 1-2 hours per day). At the end of the contract, drivers will have driven less than 50% of the total work hours, and thus, less than 50% of the total work days. Consequently, driving is not a primary job duty in this job order. All employees, both H-2A and domestic workers, have the voluntary opportunity to obtain a driver’s license and FLCE registration, but it is not a pre-hire requirement. No applicant will be denied employment or terminated for lacking these credentials. While driving, CalVan drivers are compensated for actual driving time, completing MSPA-related paperwork, refueling, and cleaning the vehicle. Outside of driving duties, they perform regular agricultural job tasks. Driver: The driving responsibility is integrated into the overall role of a farm laborer, with duties aligned to SOC Code 45-2092.00 (Farmworkers and Laborers, Crop, Nursery, and Greenhouse). When not driving, drivers are expected to perform various agricultural tasks, including harvesting crops manually or with hand tools, sorting and packing products in the field, and weeding and thinning to maintain crop health and optimizing yield. Additional responsibilities include loading and unloading agricultural products or materials, operating tractors for fieldwork such as plowing, planting, or hauling, and performing basic machinery maintenance. Drivers may also assist with irrigation tasks, such as laying or repairing lines, monitoring water flow, and troubleshooting issues, while maintaining the cleanliness and organization of work areas. These combined duties ensure that drivers contribute effectively to the overall agricultural operations. Driving requirements: Drivers must comply with the motor carrier standards per 29 CFR 500.105. Minimum qualifications to be authorized to drive include physical requirements, a valid state-issued driver's license, a valid doctor’s certificate, and a background check, which includes fingerprints. The employer covers costs associated with the requirements such as exams and fingerprints. Crew Leader will work under the direction of the Supervisors. Oversees inventory and material orders, ensuring product quality and packing standards are met. Directs and monitors harvesting activities, assisting the supervisor with pre-harvest preparations and audits. Maintains workers’ production and attendance by scanning employee QR codes. Ensures workers have adequate drinking water and ice in portable drinking water containers, disposable drinking cups, shade, portable toilets, water for handwashing, paper towels, and hand soap. Must also maintain portable water containers clean by washing them daily. Schedules rest breaks and lunches according to state and federal requirements and document on time sheets. Must also record accurate hours worked for the workers.
