Job Description

Full Time:
Yes
Number of Workers Requested:
39
Job Duties:
Workers will perform assigned duties as instructed by their supervisor. Workers must follow all directions given by their supervisor and must perform all tasks as instructed. Crop Harvesting and Loading: Workers will harvest many types of vegetables. These include, but are not limited to, peppers, pumpkins, gourds, cabbage, broccoli, and cauliflower. Workers will also harvest cucumbers for pickles. Workers will walk down the rows and pick vegetables by hand. They will put the vegetables into containers or hampers. When the container is full, the worker will carry it to the truck and dump the vegetables. Workers will load and unload produce boxes and peppers onto trucks. Workers must be able to lift and carry up to 90 pounds. Planting and Field Work: Workers will plant and replant all crops. Workers will use a hand spade or a trowel to plant by hand. Some workers will ride a mechanical planter. The farm will provide training for the planter. This work requires using a shovel and doing the same motions for a long time. General Field Maintenance: Workers will keep the fields and farm areas clean. This includes pulling weeds by hand, hoeing, and raking. Workers will pick up rocks in the fields. Workers will clean the area around the sheds. Workers will dig ditches and trenches with shovels to move water away from the crops. Workers will work with irrigation pipes. This includes laying pipes down, moving them to different spots, and picking them up when finished. Workers will also set out and pick up harvest hampers. Workers must be able to perform strenuous manual labor outdoors in all weather conditions, including heat, cold, and rain, for a minimum of six (6) hours per day. The position requires physical strength and endurance to bend, stoop, and stand for extended periods. It also requires the ability to use hands quickly and repeatedly to meet production standards. The employer will provide all necessary tools and equipment at no charge to the worker. Consistent with applicable law, the employer may recover the cost to repair or replace tools if damage is caused by the worker’s willful misconduct or gross negligence. This will only happen after the damage occurs and after the employee gives written authorization for a deduction. At its sole discretion, the employer may pay a higher wage rate based on individual performance or tenure. This does not change the entry-level requirements of this position. When production needs require, the employer may offer hours in excess of the daily or weekly schedule stated in the ETA-790, there is a possibility that available work hours will be in excess of 20% of the hours offered but they are not guaranteed. These additional hours are strictly voluntary and not guaranteed; no worker is required to work beyond the contracted hours, on federal holidays, or on their Sabbath, and no worker will be penalized for declining such work. Due to the nature of agriculture, workers should expect occasional periods of little or no work due to weather, crop maturity, or other conditions beyond the employer's control. These periods may occur at any time throughout the season. In the event of a worker-requested leave of absence during periods of available work, all missed hours will be deducted from the actual hours worked but will be credited as "hours offered" toward the fulfillment of the three-quarter guarantee. Workers are responsible for providing their own suitable work clothing.
