Job Duties:
Commercial landscaping maintenance services include maintenance and upkeep of outdoor space through mowing, edging, trimming, and blowing outdoor features of a commercial or business spaces, public, or private open spaces to include schools or similar types of properties or multi-family properties. Commercial maintenance landscaping laborers will perform the following job duties; ground preparation for sod, lay sod, plant small trees and shrubs, plant plants and flowers in flowerbeds and other green space areas, fertilize sod, plants, and flowers using pre-mixed and bagged fertilizer to maintain healthy plants, trees, and turf, dig trenches for sprinkler lines, repair sprinkler lines, replacement of sprinkler heads, startup irrigation system, and maintain hardscape areas which is any of the non-living elements in landscape of a work site. Examples of hardscape are: crushed rock, mulch, sand, rocks, or boulders areas. Techniques include construction or installation involves the restoration or maintenance of non-living elements in outdoor spaces, such as non-plant and grass landscape areas, walkways with crushed rock or sand as base element, rock, or boulder areas. Designed elements selected during planning stage are placed in proper locations in landscape area. Established hardscape areas severely damaged beyond repair, complete replacement may be necessary. This involves removing the damaged elements and installing new ones, ensuring proper drainage and a level base. Hardscape materials - crushed rock, mulch, sand, rocks, or boulders using tools like brooms, brushes, rakes, shovels, picks, and wheelbarrows. Basic landscape equipment such as walk behind trenchers, skip steers, riding lawn mowers and hand tools to include shovels, hoes, rakes, back-pack blowers, hand grass trimmers, pruning shears, and shrub trimmers. Tasks may include construct or repair mortarless segmental concrete masonry wall units. Hand tools required for hardscaping are shovels, picks, pry bars, post hole diggers, and hammers. Remove damaged or old crushed rock or sand material and replace with same or equal material using listed hand tools. No machinery or heavy equipment used. Definition of “hardscape” – any man-made, “non-living” element in landscaping. Hardscape areas include crushed rock, sand, mulch, or other non-living materials that complete landscape areas. The job duties provided said “walkways with crushed rock or sand base element”. This is the material used to walk through garden or hardscape areas.
